Cultural channel Arte in France has acquired influential documentarian Ken Burns’ latest premium factual series ahead of its global launch at Mipcom next week.

The American Revolution (6×120’) is produced by Florentine Films and follows the founding of the US through a detailed examination of the War of Independence.

Launched on the eve of the 250th anniversary of American independence, the title’s voice cast includes Hollywood stars such as Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Damian Lewis, Samuel L Jackson and Morgan Freeman.

The deal with Arte was brokered between Eniela Bella, director of coproduction finance sales at PBS Distribution, and Helene Ganichaud, Nicolas Portes and Caroline Hocquard at Arte France.

Eniela Bella said: “This early deal with Arte France underscores the broad international appeal and cultural relevance of the series. We’re proud to be launching it with such a trusted partner.”
