Eons: Life and Death on Pangea

Poster

A premium documentary series exploring Earth’s deep past, set on the supercontinent Pangea just before the Age of Dinosaurs. It follows the Carboniferous world of swamp-dwelling amphibians and giant arthropods, and the rise of new adaptations—seed plants and amniotes—that enabled life to thrive on land.

The series tracks the Permian Period, where herbivory first emerges in vertebrates alongside the rise of major terrestrial predators such as Dimetrodon. It highlights increasing ecological specialization and the evolution of early mammal relatives, the therapsids, before a major biodiversity collapse linked to intense volcanism at the Middle–Late Permian transition.

It culminates in the Late Permian “Great Dying,” the largest mass extinction in Earth’s history, eliminating over 80% of species and reshaping evolution. The aftermath shows a devastated Triassic world, where only a small group of survivors remain to rebuild life on Earth.
